And it\u2019s hard to fault a tried-and-true angle like this old chestnut: pick against the bad teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This week saw plenty of action in fading the Cardinals, Bears and Panthers across RunYourPool entries. And for the most part, it was a sound strategy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">This Week in Pick\u2019em Pools<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">About 80 percent of players took one look at a top-flight defense against a tank-driving squad and knew the hook wasn\u2019t going to slow them down.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And they were right. The Browns blew out the Cardinals. The 7.5 was no match for Cleveland and it was an easy win for heaps of players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As for the rest of the week, it was an overall net positive for the most popular picks (and would have been great if New Orleans had eked out a cover):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Browns -7.5 (taken by 80.3 percent of players). Covered.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Colts -2.5 (73.6 percent). Covered.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Saints -7.5 (69.5 percent). Won but didn\u2019t cover.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rams +3.5 (64.2 percent). Lost, didn\u2019t cover.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Steelers -2.5 (63 percent). Covered.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-us.googleusercontent.com\/mB1_LUNiD9bvC1zEkdWEnvAH3MYyEV0XKCHrvURjGOEoHAJYH6_Z1sws3It7p6DWWPXza_YoIYcqNmXse_K4xoal4j_MhwYTA5GeyJigQzBplmgjlrsVbGHUHtnVpql5AzQbxK214e3Ih2v93_KJJr0\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But there\u2019s another angle you could have used last week. You could have used the Unabated <a href=\"https:\/\/unabated.com\/nfl\/pick-emref=zwfhzwj\">Pick\u2019em Edge Tool<\/a> to make choices on your pick\u2019em plays based on market movement.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We took RunYourPool contest lines and compared them to the Unabated Line \u2013 a vig-free consensus line made from numbers at the sharpest market-making books. If the Unabated Line moves, we think that means it\u2019s because the sharpest bettors in the world have affected markets in such a way that sportsbooks moved the line.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In other words, if the contest offered a team at -3 but the market had moved to -3.5 since contest lines were released, we\u2019d say that was a good bet.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s what the top edges were according to the tool:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Browns -7.5 (80.3 percent). Covered.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Steelers -2.5 (63 percent). Covered.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chargers -2.5 (55.8 percent). Covered.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dolphins +2.5 (49 percent). Lost, didn\u2019t cover.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cowboys +3.5 (37.6 percent). Lost, didn\u2019t cover.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That ends up as a 3-2 week for the most-picked teams at RYP, and a 3-2 week for the Pick\u2019em Edge Tool.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s the same record, but look what happens when you make your picks based off of market information: instead of moving with 73.6 percent of the pack on a team like the Colts, you\u2019ve got a shot to either make up ground or stay far ahead of the pack with only 55.8 percent on the Chargers. Those lesser-used picks are gold.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now that we\u2019re through Week 9, the popular picks are back up to a winning record at 23-22. If you\u2019ve been using the top Unabated edges, your mark would stand at 30-15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Next Week in Survivor Pools<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-us.googleusercontent.com\/qtd--5uyDqOYcySDrzziWYYWhTkEFhrPTPXc-d-cIU6rNYSkTV6SwWj89w0WqQU-aTOYdkmibvZD868dSBAOhsWFBEmhJelt4rFwjWQM4q-eMwq5cpbApWYFbjkQWUx8LKkWsNO_WBtRR0vkZd1YmnQ\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You may have had to sweat a little bit with last week\u2019s survivor pick on New Orleans but Derek Carr and the <a href=\"https:\/\/unabated.com\/nfl\/survivor?utm_source=RYP&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=poolsref=zwfhzwj\">Survivor Optimizer<\/a> came through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This week we\u2019ve got one of \u2013 if not <em>the<\/em> \u2013 biggest moneyline favorite of the year in Dallas, -1400 at Circa Sports against the Tommy DeVito-led Giants. In Dallas. Halloween is in the rearview but it\u2019s never too late for a full-on horrorshow for Big Blue backers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ravens, Bengals and Bills are also solid favorites this week but if you\u2019ve either used all those teams or you\u2019re trying to conserve them for the stretch run, don\u2019t overlook Seattle. They\u2019re at home and a -250 favorite over a post-sell-off Commanders team.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As always, you can go your own way with the optimizer and lock certain teams into certain weeks, then let the tool take care of the rest.
