The March gala has had Golden Globe winners that are reappearing as favorites, but there are also some up-for-grab categories and a surprise that I\u2019m forecasting for Sunday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My last show betting preview for the Grammys were candidly NOT the results I like to bring home on awards night, but I\u2019m here to avenge the disappointment and close out Awards Season with a bang. I will glean from my <a href=\"https:\/\/articles.runyourpool.com\/2023\/01\/09\/golden-globes-betting-preview\/\">winning Golden Globes predictions<\/a> of January, as they are often indicators of who could be walking out with the hardware come Sunday night. With that, let\u2019s get to the biggest categories of the night and who I like to go home a winner:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>BEST PICTURE<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite \u201cBanshees of Insherin\u201d (+1400) hoisting the Golden Globe in precisely this category a couple of months ago, all of the downward momentum and Vegas steam is on Everything, Everywhere, All At Once (-1100) to win best picture and steal the final on-stage moments of the night. Typically logic tells you to follow the Globes winner here and it does come at a good value, but the overwhelming odds shifted towards the favorite are impossible to ignore<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Alex\u2019s Play: Everything, Everywhere, All At Once (no bet)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>BEST ACTOR<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brendan Fraser\u2019s portrayal of an overweight father looking to spend his dying days reuniting with family gets him in the pole position for Best Actor at -100 odds, ahead of Golden Globe winner Austin Butler from \u201cElvis\u201d at +135. It\u2019s definitely a two-horse race here, and unlike the previous category, I\u2019m going with the Golden Globe winner to complete the awards season sweep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Alex\u2019s Play: Austin Butler +135<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>BEST ACTRESS<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another head-to-head as the odds clearly indicate only two have a chance to win &#8211; Michelle Yeoh from \u201cEverything, Everywhere, All at Once\u201d has slightly better odds to win at -140, compared to Cate Blanchett at +100 for \u201cTar\u201d. While Yeoh won this award in the musical\/comedy category at the Globes in January, Blanchett won in the drama category. Based on award history I tend to lean toward the drama winner to take home the Oscars &#8211; an anti-musical\/comedy bias lives through this show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Alex\u2019s Play: Cate Blanchett +100<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"684\" src=\"https:\/\/articles.runyourpool.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/29th_Annual_SAG_Awards_Arrivals_23058088196585.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-70699\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.runyourpool.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/07160136\/29th_Annual_SAG_Awards_Arrivals_23058088196585.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog-assets.runyourpool.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/07160136\/29th_Annual_SAG_Awards_Arrivals_23058088196585-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog-assets.runyourpool.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/07160136\/29th_Annual_SAG_Awards_Arrivals_23058088196585-768x513.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Photo by Jordan Strauss\/Invision\/AP<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>BEST DIRECTOR<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While this is a very notable category, there\u2019s absolutely no drama or uncertainty with this pick: Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinart for \u201cEverything, Everywhere, All At Once\u201d are a commanding favorite, so much so that there\u2019s next to no value betting on them to win\u2026because they will at preposterous -1200 odds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Alex\u2019s Play: Everything, Everywhere, All At Once (no bet)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the other side of the coin, here is the category that is WIDE OPEN to win on the night, featuring three leading ladies in Hollywood all at similar odds: Angela Bassett (+130), Kerry Condon (+225), and Jamie Lee Curtis (+125). This is one of those categories where I\u2019m pulling back on \u201cbetting with my heart here\u201d &#8211; Bassett won the Golden Globe so the sweep feels like too much. Curtis is a lifer in Hollywood so her speech would be epic, so on that note, I\u2019ll take Condon as \u201cBanshees of Insherin\u201d has certainly found the stage this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Alex\u2019s Play: Kerry Condon +225<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Checking the odds pre-show and not just betting what your eyes told you is crucial in awards season. Here\u2019s another prestigious category where the winner has already been decided according to the odds: Ke Huy Quan from Everything, Everywhere, All At Once is the prohibitive -5000 so you can essentially start walking him up the stage as the nominees are being read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Alex\u2019s Play: Ke Huy Quan (no bet)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019m lastly highlighting this category because in the history of the show, it\u2019s rare that underdogs emerge but when they do it\u2019s often in the Animated + Doc categories. The odds will have you picking \u201cNavalny\u201d at -240 with some freshly squeezed juice on those odds, but here\u2019s my surprise of the night: All the Beauty and the Bloodshed steals in here at +500 odds. The doc tackles the opioid crisis, and there\u2019s nothing The Oscars love more than societal issues during their moment on stage. My dog of the night!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Alex\u2019s Play: All the Beauty and the Bloodshed +700<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>BONUS PLAYS<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Best Costume Design &#8211; Elvis -165<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Best Sound &#8211; Top Gun -800<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Best Adapted Screenplay &#8211; All Quiet on the Western Front +160<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(All odds via DraftKings Sportsbook) <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hollywood&#8217;s biggest night is almost here, which means there are winners to be picked.
