{"id":78720,"date":"2023-08-08T15:18:48","date_gmt":"2023-08-08T15:18:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/articles.runyourpool.com\/?p=78720"},"modified":"2023-08-08T15:18:51","modified_gmt":"2023-08-08T15:18:51","slug":"bijan-robinson-2023-fantasy-forecast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.runyourpool.com\/articles\/2023\/08\/08\/bijan-robinson-2023-fantasy-forecast\/","title":{"rendered":"Bijan Robinson 2023 Fantasy Forecast"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Atlanta Falcons used the No. 8 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft to reserve Texas Longhorns running back Bijan Robinson for themselves, making him the first player at his position off the board in the draft. Furthermore, it made Robinson the first running back to go in the top 10 of the NFL Draft since Saquon Barkley did it in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are plenty of reasons for fantasy players to be excited about Robinson\u2019s entrance to the league.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But hype is cheap. Everybody is poised for an outstanding season in August. Then September happens, and sometimes reality isn\u2019t all that it was cracked up to be. If you want Robinson on your roster this season, you\u2019ll have to expend an early pick in your draft to make it happen. It\u2019s always in your best interest to weigh the pros and cons before jumping too hard to a conclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bijan Robinson 2023 Fantasy Forecast<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Pros<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everything we saw from Bijan Robinson in college indicates he\u2019ll do pretty well in the NFL. In his three seasons at Texas, the running back racked up 3,410 yards on the ground with 33 rushing touchdowns to boot. He averaged 6.3 yards per rush for his career and proved himself as a weapon out of the backfield, too, amassing more than 800 yards receiving and eight receiving scores as a Longhorn. It was enough to earn him the status of a Consensus All-American in 2022 and the Doak Walker Award in the same season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/C6SHGmUdwrw\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Robinson is also entering a very favorable situation, at least from the perspective of fantasy football team owners. In 2022, the Falcons led the NFL in rushing attempts (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/stats\/team-stats\/offense\/rushing\/2022\/reg\/all\">559<\/a>) and were third in the league in rushing yards (2,718). That was with Tyler Allgeier and Cordarrelle Patterson handling most of the load. Robinson is expected to usurp the top spot in the pecking order and become the main benefactor of Atlanta\u2019s run-first approach. High-volume running backs are priceless in fantasy football.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Atlanta also doesn\u2019t have a great crop of top wide-receiving targets for<a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/35983102\/falcons-officially-name-desmond-ridder-starting-quarterback\"> Desmond Ridder<\/a> to aim for, nor is Ridder one of the premier gunslingers in the league. That gives Atlanta even more reason to rely on the run in 2023. Add in a very solid offensive line unit anchored by Chris Lindstrom,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pff.com\/news\/nfl-offensive-line-rankings-2023-offseason\"> whose 93.1 PPF run-blocking grade<\/a> was the best in the NFL last season, and you can see how Robinson appears set for a healthy amount of opportunity in his rookie campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Cons<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Robinson has never played in the NFL before. He will now be chased by grown men \u2013 very, very large grown men \u2013 who are paid millions of dollars to train nearly every day specifically to hunt him down. It\u2019s a totally different beast from playing on Saturdays, and for us as outsiders who aren\u2019t at the training facilities during practices and don\u2019t know the athletes personally, it\u2019s very difficult to know who will transition smoothly and who won\u2019t. There is always risk with drafting any rookie in fantasy football, even the highly-touted ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Atlanta\u2019s likely-poor passing attack can be viewed as a potential negative for Robinson\u2019s fantasy forecast, too. While it might mean he\u2019ll be amply force-fed, it could also mean that defenses can stack the box in preparation. You want a running back on your team who you can be confident will get their touches, but those need to translate into yards or better to mean something useful, unless your league awards points for attempts. If defenses load up to stuff the line of scrimmage and the Falcons can\u2019t utilize the passing game to open up the field, Robinson\u2019s fantasy season might not go as well as some are forecasting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The two running backs that paved the way in each of the last two seasons in Atlanta are both still on the team\u2019s roster. Allgeier put up more than 1,000 rushing yards<a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/stats\/_\/name\/atl\/atlanta-falcons\"> on the season in 2022<\/a> while Patterson posted nearly 700 himself just one year after breaking the four-digit mark in 2021 for all-purpose yards. The Falcons have a wealth of talent at the running back position even without Robinson. Considering the team\u2019s decision to take him with the No. 8 overall pick, Atlanta must believe he\u2019s the best of the bunch and an improvement on what it had, but we know Allgeier and Patterson can find success in this league. The point is, while Robinson is the first name on the depth chart to start the season, he has two capable challengers on his heels. If a slump occurs or injury holds him out for a few weeks, his position as the primary ball carrier could evaporate once Allgeier or Patterson get their shot to shine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In Conclusion: Bijan Robinson in 2023<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Running backs that are selected in the top 10 of the NFL Draft generally perform well fantasy-wise in their rookie seasons, like Barkley and Ezekiel Elliott did when they were in this position. Those are some big shoes to fill, but there is excitement around Robinson for good reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/G8ZkKaVFOdQ\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is cause for caution, his freshness to the league notwithstanding. Unlike some other running backs projected to be among the best in fantasy in 2023, Robinson has two players behind him who have both shown they can be starters in the NFL. Plus, a questionable passing attack means defense will know what\u2019s coming, which could limit effectiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The pros are so strong, though. We know Robinson is talented \u2013 that much is obvious \u2013 but he\u2019s also walking into a sweet spot for a rookie running back. The Falcons didn\u2019t use their top-10 pick on him because they intend to abandon what was already one of the best and most-used rushing attacks in the NFL. This shows an even greater commitment to the ground from Atlanta, and Robinson is now in line to bask in that prosperity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Robinson will probably go somewhere late in the first round or early in the second round of your draft. The other running backs expected to hover around this area include players like Nick Chubb, Derrick Henry, and Barkley. With how much the Falcons love to run the ball, Robinson might have the highest ceiling of the group, but he\u2019s also the least established with the most competition within his own team for his spot. Whether or not you want to target Robinson depends on how dangerously you like to live in fantasy football.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bijan Robinson has already been
