Happy New Year and welcome to this year's Super Bowl Squares Pool hosted by the Lincoln Park High School Booster Club! Our pool is designed a little differently to yield more excitement, more action and more winners. We think you’ll agree that it will be much more exciting as a result.

The skinny on the pool: Each purchased square receives four sets of numbers; one for each quarter. So you keep the same position on the board but get a new set of numbers (one AFC, one NFC) each quarter. Gone are the days of being saddled with the dreaded "2 & 5" for the entire game and spoiling your fun at your favorite Super Bowl party.

In addition to the new set of numbers per quarter, there's also a payout for the score at the beginning of each quarter. So, to start things off, the square with "AFC 0, NFC 0" at the beginning of the game wins $100. There are also payouts for each "new score"…and this means for every score. For example, if the Browns are the AFC team in the Super Bowl (work with me here as a guy can dream, right?) and they score a touchdown on the first possession of the game then the “AFC 6, NFC 0” square receives $100. If they convert the extra point then square “AFC 7, NFC 0” also receives $100. The “end of the quarter final score” square is paid the difference between what's been paid out for the quarter already and the available amount for the quarter. More on that below.

Quarterly Payouts

1st Quarter - $1,500 total payable
2nd Quarter - $1,500 total payable
3rd Quarter - $1,500 total payable
4th Quarter or Final Score (think overtime) - $3,000 total payable

Quarterly payout methodology:

• Quarter 1 - $1,500 total available

- Starting score for the quarter. Before kickoff the “AFC 0, NFC 0” square wins $100.
- For every score change thereafter there’s a payout of $100 to the winning square. Again, every point change pays. As illustrated above, the Browns score first with a touchdown in the first quarter then the "AFC 6, NFC 0" pays $100. If they then make the extra point the "AFC 7, NFC 0" square also pays $100...so two payouts for the touchdown and extra point.
- At the end of the quarter the winning square is the square that matches the final score combination for the quarter and is paid out the $1,500 (total available for the quarter) minus what was paid out during the quarter.

Using the above for our example, here’s the math for the quarter:

- Beginning quarter score – AFC 0, NFC 0 - $100
- AFC 6, NFC 0, score change - $100
- AFC 7, NCC 0, score change - $100
- Final score of the quarter AFC 7, NFC 0 = $1,500 minus the above debits of $300 (beginning score and two score changes). The net payout to the 1st quarter winning square (AFC 7, NFC 0) is $1,200.

• Quarters 2 & 3 - $1,500 each quarter total available
- The same methodology as Q1 across the board. New numbers kick in for the new quarter so we have a new winner with the same score that ended Q1.

• 4th Quarter/End of game score - $3,000 total available
- Same payout methodology as Q’s 1-3.
- Final payout, as with previous quarters, is the difference between what has been paid out for the 4th quarter/end of game and the final score against the $3,000 available for that quarter.
- Remember that the game’s final score acts as the 4th quarter score if the game goes into overtime.

Drawing for the numbers will take place once all squares are sold and all the money is collected. For those of you local to the area/high school, we're planning on holding a quick "number drawing" party at a local establishment near the school. Why? Why not! Re: payment for the winners, all distributions will be attempted on the Monday following the Super Bowl.

As with last year, each square is $100 and there are 100 available. Of the total funds raised ($10,000), the Booster Club again will retain $2,500. These funds will be used toward our recently announced Merit Scholarships that will be awarded to select graduating student/athletes this spring.

Payment options are below for Venmo, Zelle & Zeffy (credit card).

Additional clarifications on the scoring:

Only the “ones” digit of the score factors into this contest. For example, 0-0 wins if the score is 0-0, 10-0, 30-20, etc. You use the number furthest to the right of the score per team.

If you have any questions then please reach out to me directly.

Thanks,

Keith
