The Miami Dolphins are an NFL team that plays in the AFC East division. The team is based in Miami and plays its home games at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. The Dolphins were founded in 1966 by Joe Robbie and Danny Thomas and were not a charter member of the AFL. They later joined the NFL in 1970 following the AFL-NFL merger. The team has won two Super Bowls, appeared in two others, and is Florida's oldest professional sports team. The Dolphins were coached by Don Shula for most of their early history, during which quarterback Dan Marino became one of the most prolific passers in NFL history.
